Farming and utility tools of the Scots commonly doubled as weapons of war when these famed warrior met on the field of battle. Before engaging an enemy, banging and bashing heavy axes against their battle shield (targes) while insanely screaming profane and taunting phrases was certainly in the list of favorite things to do that spread terror among their foes. This fully functional authentic Short Axe from CAS Hanwei features a forged head in blackened carbon steel, a sharp tempered edge and hardwood shaft; all given a beautiful antiqued finish. Gallowglass Sword AH3418 by Deepeeka

From Anglo-Scottish Wars to the Jacobite rebellions, Scottish warriors used different types and sizes of axes in battle. Axes during many eras were commonly used in hand-to-hand combat; smaller axes with shorter shafts were sometimes even thrown during an attack. The manner in which axes were used was largely dictated by the circumstances of the battle, planned tactics and strategies utilizing the size and strength of the axe. Such a weapon could strike hard against a man in armour, or compromise a shield with its sheer force. The Short Axe was useful both on the farm and in battle. It excelled as a close quarters weapon, while still being light enough to throw when necessary.
