The brush tipper end is equipped with black flagged poly bristles, extending approximately 2 inches in length from the round wood beater knob. (B) The Brush/Brush Tipper (BBTBB) by Bridget measures approximately 13-1/2 inches in length and features a dual 2-red brush design. A raised center knob supports better grip and accurate finger placement. Both tipper ends are equipped with red flagged poly bristles, each side extending approximately 2 inches in length from the round wood beater knobs.
Handcrafted and made of lathe-turned Birch Hardwood, each Bridget tipper is given a smooth natural finish that feels right at home in your hand. The beater ends measure about 1" inch wide. Each poly-bristle end extends 2 inches beyond the beater knobs dilvering outstanding performance without scratching or damaging your drum head surface. The Poly Bristles are Color Coded by Model; Black for single brush, Red for double brush, making for quick identification if you own carry both together in your tipper arsenal.
The bodhran is played with a wooden stick called a tipper, bone, beater or cipin. Tippers were originally made from a double-ended knuckle bone but now in the modern age, usually crafted from a variety of hard woods including ash, holly or hickory. As shown here, "brush ended tippers" are also crafted, where quite literally both or one end is a brush, creating a unique and quieter sound varieties when slid or slapped upon the drum skin.
There are tippers with plastic brushes extending from one or both ends. These sound great on American tunes, adding light and distinctly "unCeltic" sound. If you perform a mix of Celtic and American music, a brush tipper helps make a clear contrast between the two genres.
