How To Get Your Correct Hat Size:
To get your correct hat size, measure the length around your head with a tape measure just above your eyebrows where your hat will rest. If you don't have a tape measure, use a string and measure it against a ruler. If you are unsure or between sizes, buy the larger size.

The Balmoral bonnet dates back to at least the 16th century when it was a soft, knitted wool cap with a voluminous, flat crown, traditionally blue in colour, sometimes with a diced band (usually red-and-white check) around the lower edge and with a coloured toorie (pom-pom) set in the middle of the crown. Nowadays it's commonly worn by civilians, notably civilian pipe bands, but can be considered an appropriate hat worn by any males with Highland casual or evening dress.

Today's Balmoral, the crown of the bonnet is smaller, made of finer cloth and is available in various Tartans and Colors. Ribbons in, or attached to the back of, the band (originally used to secure the bonnet tightly) are sometimes worn hanging from the back of the cap. A regimental or clan badge is worn on the left-hand side, affixed to a silk or grosgrain ribbon cockade (usually black, white or red), with the bonnet usually worn tilted to the right to display this emblem. The center of the crown features a toorie, traditionally red.
