Cutlery was a personal item and rarely supplied by a host - most people kept their eating utensils on their person, often in their belts, ready for wherever they might have their next meal. The fork was the latest addition, coming into widespread use in Europe only in the Renaissance. The tines, usually only two, were short and straight, not curved. Forks weren't being used to bring food from the plate to the mouth, but instead were used to spear a piece of food, lift it from the serving plate or bowl and shake any excess sauce from it before grabbing it with your fingers (and just the thumb and first two fingers at that) to pop in your mouth. Those choosing to use forks and who wish to stay as accurate as possible to the period would probably want to stick to a fork with two, straight tines; or eagerly wiggling fingers and a thumb or two.
