They have found 881. The last one hangs as a medallion around the neck of Elizabeth Swann. As a girl she took it from young Will Turner to keep him from being marked as a pirate. As a young woman, the medallion carries her into an adventure beyond her wildest dreams.
During the 18th century, the Caribbean, also called “The Spanish Main” was known as the “Treasure House of the World” because all the wealth of Spain’s New World colonies was shipped across its waters. It’s easy to imagine coins minted from the gold Cortez stole from the Aztecs civilization falling into pirate hands and becoming the stuff of which legends are made.
