SAINT GEORGE SWORD Silver Edition 594 Marto
Saint George is a character half legendary and half historical. He lived in 3rd and 4th century. His sword, named Ascona served to kill a dragon. The Marto 594 Saint George Sword measures a little over 47 inches overall and features a double edge blade constructed of 440 Toledo Steel which has been fully tempered for strength and flexibility. Very nice indeed for slaying dragons.

The low maintenance safe-edged stainless steel blade
is brought to a lustrous mirror polish, and features a sharply decorated blade etched in black. The etching features a Rampant Lion Crest of St. George, Winged Dragon, Maltese Crusader Cross, Sword Shield and Cross; all decoratively surrounded in ivy and scroll work designs. The hilt of this sword displays simple form, function and beautiful decoration. Built upon a foundation of antiqued Zamak silver, dragons and dragon skin with flora leaf detailing immerge in relief, while quillon ends and pommel form 3 dimensional tri-leaf sculptures. The plush grip blue velvet tightly wrapped in steel wire.

spacer The Story of St. George & the Dragon
April 23rd is St. George's Day, celebrated throughout England and many other countries around the world. According to legend St. George killed a dragon. St George’s sword was one of those special swords with a name – Ascalon. It’s also possible that this could have been the name of his lance, as one story says the dragon’s blood melted St George’s sword and so he killed the dragon with his lance.

The Golden Legend, printed by Caxton in 1483 was the first mass circulation of the legend which may have emerged centuries after St George’s death. The story is based in Libya near a town called Silene. S. Baring-Gould, a Devon priest in the nineteenth century with an interest in folklore and magical creatures, reproduced it here 500 years later. The myth of St George and the Dragon is widespread and it is unclear whether it actually has anything to do with the Christian martyr. What is clear is that history, fiction and faith have merged the stories to create the image we know today.
