BASTARD SWORD SH2250 by Paul Chen/ CAS Hanwei The strong and fearless Swiss and Germans originally carried these early weapons, although bastard swords soon became popular in other regions such as the British Isles and Europe. The term bastard undoubtedly comes from the fact that the sword, because of its design, has no legitimate claim to being classified as either a single-handed or two-handed weapon. The bastard sword was a weapon developed for the use of the foot soldier and had became quite common by the early 1500s. The combat styles developed for the bastard sword were the particular specialty of the Northern European Cultures, with the Germanic nations being quite active in its development and use.
The Paul Chen Bastard Sword made at Hanwei is finished in an antique patina, making for an outstandingly authentic appearance. The fullered blade is fully tempered and constructed in 1566 High Carbon Steel offering strength, quickness, and durability. The blade comes moderately sharp from the factory yet can be further sharpened and maintained to fit your preferred usage and need. This Bastard Sword features a long elegant forward swept crossguard constructed of steel which has been decoratively tooled. The full tang blade extends through the pommel where it is peened for strong, secure functionality.
In combination with a large steel wheel pommel, its roomy 9 1/4" wooden contoured grip has been covered in black leather offering comfort, hand-blade orientation, and outstanding overall balance. This authentic Paul Chen Bastard Sword SH2250 by Hanwei includes a handsome solid core scabbard covered in rust-brown leather, fitted with matching antiqued patina locket and chape.

Paul Chen Swords Paul Chen swords are crafted in much the same way as swords were made centuries ago, except now the blades are forged from high-carbon spring steel. The blade finish is far from being mirror polished; again more closely replicating what the medieval swordsmith was able to achieve. Except as noted the grips are leather covered hardwood. Fittings are either steel or solid brass. These swords will appeal to the re-enactor who wants a sword with the same appearance as the originals.
